Description
SG-720 is a special pre-activated polyamide wax dispersed in a solvent mixture. It is designed for highly efficient control of anti-sagging and anti-settling properties in solvent based industrial coatings and wood finishes. SG-720 gives viscosity increase and develops and exceptionally strong and long lasting thixotropic structure. According to requirements for solid contents, we can also supply SG-710 and 725. For higher viscosity increase, SG-720 EX can be excellent choice.
Advantages
- Excellent flow and leveling
- Long retained anti-sagging and anti-settling properties
- Little or no seeding, gloss reduction, and good inter-coat adhesion
- Efficient thixotropic structure development
- Excellent thermal stability
- Suitable for use in a wide range of solvent based coatings
Physical Properties
- Apperance : Translucent white paste
- Non-Volatiles : 19~21%
- Specific Gravity 0.87 ~ 0.89
- Solvent : Xylene. Alcohols
Application
- Marine, Architectural, and Heavy duty coatings
- Clear varnishes and top coats requiring high gloss
- Industrial wood finishes based on alkyd or acrylic based polyurethane, nitrocellulose, and acid curing.
Incorporation
Post Addition
It is recommended that SG-720 be incorporated into the coatings system at 20 ~50°C using a high speed disperser operated under low to mediun shear conditions over as short time period as possible for maintaining of desired thixotropic structure. (1,0000 ~ 2,500 rpm, 5~25min. depending on viscosity).
Too high speed may result in the destruction of the active fibers and reduced performance, but too low shear will result in extended incorporation times. Excessive dispersion times will result in a gradual decline in the final properties of the coatings.
Master Batch
Master batch can be prepared by dispersing SG-720 in a vehicle using low to medium shear rates. And then, this dispersion can be added to finished paints. This incorporation method is preferred for coatings prepared using specialty pigments such as aluminium powder, flatting agent, and zinc dust.
Recommended Levels
The typical addition level will vary depending on the type of coating formulations and required degree of anti-sagging & anti-settling performance
- For anti-settling : 0.5 ~2.0% based on total coatings formulation
- For anti-sagging : 2.0 ~5.0% based on total coatings formulation
Storage
SG-720 should be stored in the tightly closed original container in a cool and dry place at 5 ~ 30°C. Avoid exposure to heat source and direct sunlight. Under recommended storage condition, SG-720 may be stored up to 12 months.
